Jack Tar is a great spot for a bite to eat or a drink in the sun. We were excited to see that they stock ‘little creatures’ beer from Melbourne. Situated in Wynyard Quarter this is a great spot to soak up the atmosphere and people watch while catching up with friends. Casual, relaxed place with typical pub type fare.
Had a group of friends over from America. Was reccommended Jack Tar by a friend for there awesome atmosphere. Not only did we find delicious food we also found cold beer and an array of good wines. The menu is pretty comprehensive with Meats, Fish, Pizza the works. The most expensive meal was $28 from memory so its really affordable too. Located on the newly renovated Wynyard Quarter its bascially the most stand out looking place, yes a restaurant in an old goods shed. Ooo and you can get jugs (pitchers) for you out of towners. This restaurant is definitly worth a shot, I reccommend the fish and chips Jack Tar style.
I've been here a few times and have enjoyed it every time. Really nice relaxed environment where you can kick back and have a few cheekys, eat some decent hearty food, and laugh out loud. The areas are distinctly different, with two outside courts set up either side of the restaurant and the main area inside. My favourite side would be the one that backs onto Jellicoe - there seems to be a bit more life for some reason!
This area is fantastic and it's great to see people using it and filling up the local venues. Jack Tar has tables out the front and another area out the back with an bar that opens to the area - meaning you don't have to go inside to get drinks. Wine list was good and they have cider on tap (yay). Love the vintage-style jugs and bowls and how they serve the chunky chips in jugs. Very cute. Chips were a little overcooked, but then I am a fussy chip critic ;-)
