The gold and silver certificates from the national ice cream awards (how does one go about getting a judging gig for these? Asking for a friend) lining Kaffee Eis’ walls are a testament to its quality. Tthe ever-revolving array of flavours means it’s possible to go far more frequently than your wallet or your waistline will allow and never get stuck in a rotation of chocolate-vanilla-strawberry - my favourite is the tiramisu. Plus, with premises spotted around the city, you’re never far away from a branch.
Every Wellingtonian knows you can’t go past Kaffee Eis for a sweet treat, with the framed certificates that fill its walls testament to the consistent quality of its ice cream. But Kaffee Eis also does great coffee in a part of town better known for its boozing. It’s open late on the weekends, too – perfect if you need a caffeine hit before you hit the town.
With three destinations, Kaffee Eis is something of an institution in Wellington, but you can’t go past its Courtenay Place outlet for a convenient and delicious post-dinner or pre-movie sweet treat. The framed certificates from the New Zealand Ice Cream Awards that fill the walls are testament to the consistent quality of Kaffee Eis’ ever-changing but always-excellent flavours, and the staff are friendly, helpful and forthcoming with testers (though not details of how one might go about judging the aforementioned awards). Plus, excellent coffee and late-night opening hours on the weekend.
Having lived in Italy, I know a thing or two about gelato. Kaffee Eis's cold creations are truly yummy. I've tried other flavors, but I always come back to Biscotti (think cookies and cream). Pair it with a fruity option. They're creamy and fresh-- I'm a big fan of the pineapple. While the gelateria has great locations around Wellington, this spot on Courtenay Place is pretty choice. Stop in after a nice meal out, or before catching a film next door at the Paramount.
