Just half an hour out of Wellington is hands down the most impressive waterfall in the area! A half an hour, moderate intensity hike will get you there, but the views are worth every minute. The waterfall itself has been altered by the dam construction, making it appear more man-made, but that doesn't detract from it's stunning beauty!

Perfect for a day trip, the Kaitoke regional park provides free to use BBQs, and a beautiful view of the Rimutakas also. When you need to escape the city, there is nothing better than native bush and quiet.

Otari-Wilton's Bush is Wellington's native-only botanic garden. It's not far from central wellington, so transport isn't a huge issue. There are BBQs and picnic sites free for use. This is a great place to take both locals, and people from out of town!

A quick and easy 20 minute hike, up a beautiful and well maintained track will lead you to one of Wellington's highest, and most impressive Waterfalls. This track is roughly a 15 minute drive from central Wellington, is suitable for the whole family, and there is even a bench to have a picnic on!

If you're into americana and all day breakfast, Five Boroughs might just be your cafe-soulmate. Five Boroughs is new, but the service runs so smoothly that you wouldn't guess that were the case. The food is all incredibly delicious, and you'll love the presentation!

The decor here is lively to say the least, and the food matches that perfectly. With jugs of margarita, and insanely delicious tacos, what more could you ask for! They offer plenty of vegan and vegetarian options, just ask the super knowledgable staff and they will be happy to oblige!

If you want the taste, minus the cruelty, Aunty Mena’s can provide you with a delicious fried chicken alternative. The mock chicken at Mena’s is not only delicous, but it’s better for your health, the planet, and the animals.

The curly fries at Sweet Mother's are to die for. Literally even. The staff are kooky, and always happy to help, and the pie cabinet is jam packed with delicious southern inspired treats, like pecan pie.

Tequila and Tex-Mex cuisine, what is there not to love! Tequila Joe's offers up delish food, at super reasonable prices, with specials every other day. This is home to some of the best fried chicken around!

There is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing. The bush walks in Polhill reserve are all amazing, whether you go for 20 mins, or a whole day. Its a neat way to see the different little niches and communities within Wellington. You can walk right up to the Zealandia ridge fence, and definitely see some native birds.

This walk is one you'll want to come prepared for! I would recomend bringing along an amazing picnic to enjoy at the top while you enjoy the spectacular view.

Mt Vic is my go-to destination for central city hiking, cycling, mountain biking, and sight seeing. You can start from anywhere, and make the adventure as big or small as you'd like...Pack a picnic to enjoy on one of the many grassy knolls, and be sure you've got ample phone battery for those instagram pics!

Battle Hill Farm is a great place to take the family for a genuine kiwi agricultural experience! The walking tracks take you to some spectacular views, and the friendly eels are a great novelty also! Camping sites are private, and spacious, and the swimming hole will be sure to be a hit with the little ones!

I feel like the Wellington fruit and veggie markets don't get talked about enough because everyone just goes to them. These markets are really the only reasonable way to get produce in Wellington, price wise. So many good deals, always. Its like the adult version of a candy store.

Hill St. farmers market is an amazing little market with a focus on quality, Organic produce and sustainability. Held every Saturday, it is well worth the hike; whether it's to grab a jar of Fix and Fogg peanut butter, which is made locally, or some Martinborough peonies.

Every Sunday Wellington’s waterfront becomes host to an eclectic array of food, and produce stalls. Go stock up on fruit and veg, browse the many exotic breakfast options, grab some fresh flowers, honey or a fresh juice. A great way to end your weekend, and a productive activity too!

Stocking up on cheap fruit and veggies is the best way to set yourself in good stead for the coming week, and supermarkets in Wellington make that exceedingly expensive. Fresh produce, at unbeatable prices. If you live in Newtown, and a visit to this veggie market is not on your Saturday schedule, congratulations! Now it is!

Wellington Underground Market is a mecca of unique, handmade items. Ranging from clothing, to homeware, from health and beauty, to music, the selection is vast! This market is hosted every Saturday, and is a wonderful experience for the whole family!

Beach Babylon has one of the most ideal locations of any cafe in Wellington. Situated opposite Oriental Bay beach, Beach Babylon have a menu for whatever time of day you choose to stop by, the food is always fantastic, and the staff are a treat. Oh, they also do delish vegan milkshakes, iced coffees, and smoothies using little island nice-creams. Need I say more?

Foxglove is an incredible designed Bar and Restaurant. The staff are super knowledgable, professional, and are able to talk you through the extensive selection of offerings. The Tapas and Al a Carte menu shouldn't be missed, perfect for a meal with friends or something more romantic. There is also a function room for hire, and a secret hidden bar.

Dockside Bar and Restaurant would not be out place as the setting of a leisurely lunch in an 80s movie. The palm trees, and relaxed decor really set the tone beautifully, and gazing out onto the ocean while you dine is always a treat! The bar doesn’t leave anything to be desired, and the menu is fantastic!

An unsurprisingly popular summer brunch destination, Scorch O Rama are one of Wellington's best kept secrets. The Brunches and coffee are always superb, and the location cannot be beaten! Enjoy a few beverages, then peruse the seaside, what more could you ask for on a sunny afternoon!

Chow is a Wellington institution. The fresh, Asian cuisine is yet to be a let down, and the bar leaves nothing to be desired! Vegan options are plenty, as are non-alcoholic cocktails for those that way inclined. The balcony overlooking the downtown foot traffic is always the perfect perch for people watching, and escaping a busy day!

This gorgeous little wine bar is exactly what Wellington was missing. Delicious wine selection, sultry atmosphere, amazing, knowledgable staff, whats not to like? The tapas style menu is also worthy of a mention, with the Arancini being the standout.

This is exactly what Aro Valley has needed all these years. Garage project has extended it's yeasty hold on Wellington's inner suburbs, and opened a sit-in bar slightly up the street from the brewery. Serving up thier extensive craft beer range, and decadent toasted sandwiches too!

Hailing from sunny Nelson, Zumo coffee is a welcome addition to the Wellington cafe scene. With seven different coffees to choose from, and super knowledgable and friendly staff, there isn't really anything not to like! Their location on Tory street makes them the perfect coffee stop on the way to the waterfront!

Tucked off the main drag, Egmont st. eatery is a stylish, and hip eatery and function space. The food is always immaculate, and plated with flair, whilst the staff are professional and personable. An array of craft beer available, extensive wine list, and a fantastic selection of cocktails. Definitely worth a visit!

The new Lonely store in Wellington does not disappoint. The decor is beautiful, as you would perhaps expect, with marble and gold fixtures. A fitting place to try on the stunning lingerie that the label produces.
