On a sparkling summer Auckland day, there's something particularly romantic about jumping a ferry to Waiheke Island with a picnic packed and heading to the shores of Onetangi Bay to frolic in the sun and swim in the sea. Enjoy a long, lazy day date with your lover on the white sands of this picture-perfect beach and bask in its peaceful serenity. There's lots of wonderful local food producers on the island too so if you head over early on a Saturday morning then you can make a day of it by shopping up a storm first at the legendary Ostend Markets - http://www.localist.co.nz/l/ucdzlr.

I like to walk my dogs along Onetangi Beach. I have two Papillons and we try to get there at least once a week. This is also my favourite beach to swim at in the summer.

Beautiful spot on Waiheke island, perfect day trip.

On a good day, this beach is unbeatable. Today was one of those days. No wind, blue skies, low tied and perfectly glassy water that was the perfect temperature

A 1.8 Km endless stretch of pure white beach.

I absolutely love this beach. It's a wee piece of paradise.  Wonderful for a swim, especially in the middle of summer, when the water can sometimes almost feel like a warm bath.  Lovely golden sand and generally pretty safe.  A good beach for kids and adults alike.  There are also a few places to grab coffee and a snack afterwards.  Perfect spot for a great New Zealand day out.  And, if you've caught the ferry over from Auckland, there are buses that come here too.
