love the workers and staff here, very friendly!

We walked in and were immediately transported back ten (ok maybe fifteen) years to the cafe hopping of my art school days - small funky place, relaxed staff and mismatched op-shop aesthetic furniture and crockery. I instantly loved the atmosphere and our kids were welcomed with warm smiles and pointed in the direction of the toys. The menu is standard cafe fare - but with free range and vegan/dairy free/allergy friendly amendments where possible. The front case was packed with delcicious looking goodies too but we chose wrong and were quite disappointed with our 'starter' of peanut-butter pie - will go with the midnight cake(?) next time! Our coffees came out promptly, the hot chocolate and fluffy were great but my coffee was way burnt and the husbands long black needed a tiny bit of sugar (unheard of for him to add sugar usually he's a coffee snob) Also - although I love the mismatched, preloved reality of the crockery - chips in the cups are just nasty - you can def have beautiful old handmade mugs and plates without the chips and stains of the years. In saying that I wanted to take home our Sugar bowl and lid - gorgeous. Two orders of scrambles and sides - mine with non-creamy mushrooms and the four year olds with bacon - they were great and eaten all up. The husband got the big breakfast and was disappointed in it's size for the price - as he said - there was nothing particularly special or different about it to warrant it being over twenty bucks. All in all I like it alot and will def come back to sample something else off the menu - it wasn't as busy as I have seen it because we got there fairly early in the morning - and without the wee ones (smokers are of course welcome out the front which doesnt bother me but i don't like my kids in it) I'd like to sit out the front to enjoy the plentiful people watching opportunities of K'rd. Seems like a great place to nab a spot with a book on an easy day out.

...and that's a quote!  Situated on the hustle and bustle of Auckland's Karangahape Road, Revel Cafe is a little bit of something different on a street that prides itself on being a little bit of something different.  It's that cafe you always wanted to open - with your friends - and your Mum talked you out of it. The entrance is guarded by that rarity in Auckland cafe's - tables on the street - and they are almost  always occupied.  Despite being the designated smoking area, only one person out of the 10 or so people out there were actually smoking.  It's not the toxic site you might expect.  The people watching is superb - if you go in for that sort of thing. The coffee is strong!  Supreme Coffee is a common brand in Auckland Cafe's so it has a familiar feel about it.  The Long Black was slightly bitter and required a tiny bit of sugar to please the coffee snob.  The Flat White was great - tiny bit 'fluffy' for a 'flat' coffee but more than drinkable and, as referred to above, 'slightly above average'.  They have a great ranges of teas, juices, fizzes and alcoholic beverages on offer too if coffee ain't your thing.

Excellent review! Will look forward to checking this place out this weekend.

Such a cool place and the staff are friendly. Mean interior and real good coffee. Would be one of my favourite cafes. The vegan pizza is soooo yum!

Tucked away uptown on K'Road, Revel is a little cafe/restaurant which one would miss and walk past easily, but once you do stop and head inside, revels much more. So after a morning of chores (plumber and electrician coming at around 8am) and taking care of various paperwork (bills, forms, the "fun" stuffs), decided to head to town to catch up with a friend, who works nextdoor to this place. He noticed that it (Revel) seems to be bustling and the outside tables usually filled up throughout the day, and thought to give it a try (people = place must be good). The interior is best described as retro-chic, with a bit of the hipster scene going on. It's warm and "organic". The menu is the usual mix of all-day breakfast with causal style lunch/dinner items, there is also a cake/pastry display cabinent filled with home-made cakes/pastry items. They pride themselves on using only organic and free-range ingredients. I ordered their beef & bacon burger with a cup of flat white, while my friend went for the vegetarian burger with a cappuccino, and a coconut & peach muffin. The staff there was very friendly and attentive. Our coffees arrive roughly 5 minutes after we took our seats, and it is one of the strongest flat whites I've had in a while (I didn't request extra shots with it, so not sure if it was a single or double). 10 minutes after that, our food arrived. First impression was "wow! I would so want to bite into that right now". A thick beef pattie with a slice of streaky bacon sitting atop fresh salad and topped with generous amount of red chimichurri (a pesto-like sauce with South American roots) and aioli on lightly toasted ciabatta bun. It comes with a small side of potato wedges. It's definately a knife and fork burger, and more importantly, the beef pattie is juicy and very flavourful. My friend kindly shared the coconut and peach muffin, and it is very moist and soft, nicely matched with the coffee and a nice end to the meal. We sat there for roughly an hour enjoying the amience and the very nice, laid-back music selection being played. Revel is a hidden gem on K'Road, which I will be sure to visit again.

... to sit outside and watch the city go by, or hide inside as if the city were nowhere in sight, and the coffee and food's all good too.

I love Revel. It may be my favourite cafe in Auckland. It has a great atmosphere, and it reminds me of some of my favourite Wellington cafes, except that at Revel, they actually DELIVER YOUR COFFEE AND FOOD TO YOUR TABLE! Fantastic! I like it how the staff are really relaxed. They make your feel at home. The cakes are amazing! I heartily recommend the peanut butter pie! And the coffee is awesome. Especially when John makes it!

strong coffee always made by a friendly barista. great snack food as well. the ideal choice for takeout on K. ROad

Great vegetarian and allergy-free options.
