The Department Store is the brainchild of three of the most influential figures of NZ style - Karen Walker, Stephen Marr and Dan Gosling. The talented trio set out to create a modern take on the traditional department store experience, fusing together the best of beauty, art, fashion and interiors in a single environment.
With an impressive array of cult fashion labels, beautifully-designed furniture and homewares, a hair and beauty salon, and even a café to fuel your sore shopping muscles, TDS has it all.

10 Northcroft St, Takapuna, North Shore 0622 Mon-Weds 9am – 5pm Thurs 9am – 7pm Fri-Sat 9am – 5pm Sun 10am – 4pm Three stories high of clothing, beauty and coffee, The Department Store might be your one-stop shop. Supporting local brands such as Karen Walker while also indulging in the gorgeous patterns of brands like Tigerlily, The Department Store has you covered for shopping. While it caters mostly to a younger, expensive taste, there’s never any harm in window-shopping! There are layers of silk hanging next to the small beautician area where you can get organic shellac or a relaxing massage. With each floor you will fall in love again, the first being the coffee at Coffee General on entrance. The Department Store boasts a large variety of brands, Stephen Marr hairdressing services, beauty products/services and drool-worthy coffee and snacks.
Love the Department Store - for the loveliest teas, most fabulous clothes and finest brands. Recently I went to the Department store and had the best time; I shopped for a friends new baby in the Nature Baby section, found a Tigerlily beach dress for my honeymoon and browsed the fabulous wedding section for ideas on bridesmaid dresses and wedding accessories. So much fun!
The perfect excuse to visit the North Shore, the Department Store has an enviable mix of local fashion labels including Karen Walker, I Love Ugly, Lonely Hearts, Ruby, Blak and many more in it's cleverly crafted retail space. With an on-site cafe, Stephen Marr salon and Lucy & the Powder Room in the same building, it's a stellar style experience and an enjoyable way to spend a few hours, emerging beautified and relaxed at the end. Even the littlest members of the family will be catered to with an adorable Nature Baby set up on the ground floor. Shopping, beauty, food and great coffee all under one roof, who could ask for anything more?
Annie Oxborough is back at The Department Store and her shop is better than ever. There is a large selection of macrame plant hangers and some great exotic succulents and indoor plants to green up your home. She also has some a beautiful selection of planters and spectacular terrariums to choose from.
Love love love The Dressing Room on the first floor of The Department Store, tucked next to Lucy and the Powder Room. Absolutely brimming with divine lingerie by NZ labels like Ingrid Starnes, Kate Sylvester, Miss Crabb and Lonely by Lonely Hearts. Browsing through the racks is a totally dreamy experience - beautiful cuts, colours and trims.
