The best theatre for viewing any movie. Comfortable and big

A Wellington icon since 1924, the Embassy Theatre on Kent Terrace boasts an array of impressive fixtures not often seen in todays, comparatively bleak architectural resume. A marble staircase with brass fittings, beautiful, tiled bathrooms and dark wooden fixtures make you feel like you’ve stepped back to a time when, I suspect, people cared more about the aesthetic of public spaces. You can grab a cocktail to match the retrospective vibe at the Black Sparrow bar downstairs, and cozy up in the comfortable seating of one of the more intimate, smaller downstairs theatres. The perfect after dinner activity on a grim winter night.

Such a stunning part of Wellington, I'm so pleased this beautiful theatre still exists. Always look forward to the NZ Film Festival here each year too. #karenmurrell

One of Wellington's landmarks, and it's worth the hype. Probably the best place to see #darkhorse!

One of my favourite venues in Wellington. At a time when it's cheaper and more convenient to watch movies at home, the Embassy never fails to make a trip to the cinema feel special. The service is always exceptional, and the attention paid to detail, comfort, and quality of he actual cinema experience is second to none. When I leave Wellington I know I'll miss the Embassy being my local.

Wellington's best cinema. Beatiful setting and ideal location!

Old fashioned, comfy seats, great sound.

As long as its not right after a movie has finished on the main screen, the bathrooms in the embassy are classy and welcoming. And surprisingly well appointed. As long as you’re not waiting in a long queue.

The only place in Wellington to watch films. The comfortable seats let you relax as the Dolby Atmos sound system makes your ears bleed. Also a pretty good selection at the candy bar.

Newly renovated with the biggest, most beautiful screen in the city and now two smaller theatres downstairs. Just caught a documentary about Antarctica here as part of the film festival and it was stunning on the big screen. Helpful ushers, a well-stocked candy bar, the new lounge bar downstairs and art-deco bathrooms. Can’t be missed.
