The food here is amazing! Everything we ate was delicious. The BEST ceviche, juicy pulled pork on soft but crunchy ciabatta, beautiful quesadillas, and the Dahl - so full of flavour. What a nice surprise, I walked into this place with no expectations. As an added bonus, lovely staff. Make it your local.

These guys do a spectacular, classic beef and bacon burger like you used to get, served in a paper bag with a tomato shaped squeezy bottle of tom sauce and handcut chips.

Great venue for live music. I had a great dance there last weekend when I went to see Randa perform. He was siiiick! And had a good groove to the tunes they played afterwards too!

For years I’ve wanted there to be a bar that felt like a living room. Finally it has come to exist - with The Portland Public House! Not only is there a really casual friendly vibe here - but it’s the kind of living room where people are always jamming out. Perfect.

Edgy, trendy and a little bit grimy! In the best sense. ;P Love the rustic decor in this bar, so many great live music acts and a good range of tap beers and cider.

The Portland Public House is a bit of a nostalgia trip for me, back to Dunedin days, with its student flat style retro furniture and kitsch games decorating the walls. We went there for some heart-warming food and boy did we get it. First up was a serving of hand cut chips and maorioli - tom sauce and aioli. The chips were cooked to perfection, crisp on the outside with soft fluffy innards and served wrapped in paper. For the main event I had the vege dhal which was spicy and delicious, with toasted ciabatta. The bacon burger looked like a classic Kiwi burger with all the trimmings and by all accounts was also lip-smackingly good. Chased by a mulled wine, it was the perfect meal on a crisp winter evening.

Great place, really quirky and cosy. Lots of fantastic live music to be seen here. Haven't tried the food yet but will be back for sure. Highly recommended.

I was worried that Portland Public House was trying too hard, but nope. It’s awesome. The seating is comfortable and unique, they have heaps of live music, and it’s practically heaven if you’re into beardy hipster dudes… which I am.
