Tiritiri Matangi is a stones throw away from Auckland by Ferry or boat and is one of New Zealand's most beautiful nature reserves. Around the Island and on it's many scenic bush walks you'll see all manner of native plant life and endemic birds from Takahe to Little Spotted Kiwi.

As well as a diverse range of native wildlife there's a lighthouse, a visitor centre and countless amazing views and beaches to check out. Tiri is the perfect place to bring the family, get in touch with nature and relax a while away from the chaos of the city.

Get a Fullers ferry to this island… You can walk it by yourself or get the $5 guided tour which will teach you all about the birds and wildlife being re introduced to the island… Have a hike around…learn something….And take a picnic as theres no shop….Which i really like….sometimes….
