A fine example of Gisborne's relaxed atmosphere is Verve Cafe & Bar, who serve up breakfast and lunch in the centre of this sunny town.

They're well known for supporting the local talent with musicians that entertain passers-by out front shop. There is also local art on display inside.

So stop by this award winning cafe for a delicious meal complemented by a Havana coffee or take advantage of the region's fine wines.

A long-standing favourite local hang-out in the centre of town it’s a great find for bagel-lovers. Together with the option of an extra rye bread bagel for breakfast the lite menu has some delicious choices of bagel with cream cheese –salmon, red onion and capers; salmon and tomato; tomato, avocado and pesto and my favourite BLT bacon lettuce and tomato.

If you're lucky on Mothers Day then not only will you be treated to a tasty brunch (recommend the Huevos Rancheros if you like a bit of spice in the morning) then you and Mum will also be treated to some live local music. They serve fantastic Havana coffee and always have a smile on their dial.

The cool thing about this place was Gisborne’s finest local live acts on the street who at first glance I thought were buskers and probably are on any other day when they haven’t been asked by Verve to play out front. The atmosphere was so chilled and the coffee was super good.
