Bay of Plenty is know for its beaches, but if you after something a little more extreme, you should try a volcano!

White Island, off the coast of the Bay of Plenty features an amazing look into the world of volcanoes.

Warm water bubbles means that it feels like you are diving and swimming in a spa pool.

The enduring smoke of Whakaari, or White Island on the horizon is visible from throughout the Bay of Plenty. A visit to the spectacular active volcano, 50 km of Whakatane, with its bubbling mud pools, sulphuric moonscape and steamy surrounds will be an everlasting memory.

    This country is relatively new in geological terms and is known for its geothermal activity and volcanic activity. Whakaari or White Island is only 48km of the Whakatane coast and reknowned for its sulphuric moonscape and old mine workings as well as boiling mud and fumaroles. It’s easily accessible by boat tour, or the island can viewed from above by a plane or helicopter flight. A visit to this eerie active volcano is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

      There’s not many places in the world you can dive an active volcano but White Island is one of them. Beautiful warm water and unique bubbling underwater fissures create underwater Jacuzzis. Whether you’re after exciting dives from pinnacles with 150m drop off or just a cruisy reef dive.
