Where to go swimming
- 12New Brighton BeachNew BrightonExcellent, safe family beach with awesome shopping centre across the road! There is always something happening in New Brighton whether you want a leisurely stroll along the Pier, or reading a book in the New Brighton Library upstairs on the Pier. Venture along the beach and watch or join the Surfers as they ‘catch that wave’ - or perhaps take the kids fishing on the Pier. Dont forget the yearly Guy Fawkes Fireworks display :) Pack a picnic basket and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds of New Brighton
- 25Sumner BeachSumnerYet another safe and family friendly beach to enjoy - stay between the flags though as there can sometimes be a bit of a strong rip! Enjoy an ice cream with the kids or a lovely platter and a glass of vino along the beach front http://sumnervillage.co.nz/
- 32Spencer Park Holiday CampSpencervilleSpencer Park Beach - walking distance from the Park, the beach is also family friendly with surf patrols out in summertime. Not as crowded as the more popular beaches, this place can be a haven to just ‘hide away from it all’ and have a bit of space to enjoy the coastal views all the way over to Kaikoura Ranges. Go for a mountain bike through the plantation tracks or a stroll over the signed and well maintained pathways of the wetlands. The Holiday Park also has excellent facilities should larger groups need a bit of space for themselves - including BBQ facilities, fresh water access and toilets.
- 41Coes FordSpringstonA great place to head out with your mates or to use a final destination for a ‘car rally’ …. just check to make sure there is actually water in the ford because sometimes in drought conditions its very very low. But still a great place to get away from it all and enjoy a picnic, BBQ and a game of cricket with the kids and your mates. REMEMBER: to always TAKE YOUR RUBBISH HOME WITH YOU
