    For a superb brunch set a little off the beaten track of Hokitika, Stella Cafe has an excellent cabinet and full brunch menu to take your pick from. There’s loads of outdoor dining and they’re open during public holidays, hooray!

    The brunches at the Treetop Walk and Cafe are not to be missed. Even if you do suffer a little from vertigo, you should still make the trip to this very impressive cafe located way up high in the tree tops. The bacon and eggs are a must try!

    A super chilled and eccentric camping ground in Little River, this place even has giant tee pees and an out door kitchen! Located in the very secluded Okuti Valley, there’s slippery slide, trampolines and loads of other things to see and do.

    Timaru Top 10 Holiday Park
    Maori Hill
    A fantastic central Timaru holiday park, Timaru Top 10 is really close to shops, restaurants and golf course. It’s a truly Kiwi camping ground experience but with comfort, seclusion and style. Caroline Bay is super close and you should expect a really chilled laid back holiday.

    Peel Forest Campground

    This is a large campsite but still needs booking over the summer months because it is very very popular. The showers are some of the best you’ll come across at any camping ground in the South Island and there’s loads to keep you busy including jet boating and fishing.

    Balmoral Forest Recreation Area
    Balmoral
    Balmoral Forest Recreation Area is also a camping ground dministered by the wonderful people at Balmoral Recreation Area Charitable Trust. Located near the Hurunui Bridge all payments are to made at the Caltex Garage (Mockett Motors) in Culverden. Once paid take the journey to the camping ground which is incredibly secluded and sunny. There’s some great facilities here and yes there is running water!

    Lake Tennyson Campsite

    If you want to stay in a camping ground which is truly isolated then you must visit Lake Tennyson. Accessible only via a gravel road, this is the place to stay if you want to go on long walks, fishing, swimming or just chilling next to the lake.
