    For Greek salads, potato and bacon salads and all sorts of other seasonal salads then look no further than The Preservatory! This Holmwood Road hangout is a favourite for yummy mummys and retired folk - good luck trying to find a seat!

A great spot for people watching, grab a seat by the window and watch the world pass you by. And if you want something extra to go with your Thai beef salad then get the wedges - they’re amazing!

    Take some timeout at Franz Josef’s Rainforest Retreat. A perfect location, only a 5-10 minute walk to the centre of town, there’s loads to see and do in and around the retreat. The luxurious accommodation also has a fine dining restaurant and some amazing salads! A favourite amongst guests is the lamb salad. Go try for yourself.

    Karamea
    For amazing views and seascapes, visit Scotts Beach in Karamea. The excluded beach is never busy so you’ll no doubt have the place to yourself. Great for camping or just a day trip with a packed lunch, this is a great wee beach. Take a walk on the long swing bridge or walk high up on the hill for spectacular views below.

    Okarito Lagoon and Beach

    Okarito Lagoon is New Zealand’s largest unmodified wetland. Pretty cool, right? Take some binoculars with you so you can spot some rare wading birds and other wildlife, even kiwi! There are some tours you can partake in to like eco and kayak tours.

    Fox Glacier
    Gillespies Beach has some pretty great views of the Southern Alps. There’s a historic cemetery to explore and whole load of coastal walks. The old gold mining settlement and seal colony are also great attractions. There’s a lot to love about this beach!

    Bruce Bay (aka Mahitahi) has some pretty stunning sea vistas which will have you loitering around in the area for a very long time. This is a West Coast beach at its finest!     A beautiful little beachside settlement north of Christchurch, it has been quite badly affected by the Canterbury earthquakes. The beach, however, is untouched and is a wonderful place to spend time with the family. Get the kids and friends together and go fishing, camping, surfing and swimming. The beach is your oyster!

    Located to the east of Christchurch, South Brighton is full of activities. The beach itself is perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Not amazing for surfing, sometimes the swell is worth a shot. Take a walk along the famous pier and partake in some dining at a few of the great Brighton restaurants near to the beach.

    Just around the corner from Lyttelton and a short drive from the centre of Christchurch, Corsair Bay is very popular with young families and holiday goers. Great for swimming, walking around and playing in the playground, Corsair Bay is a fantastic for a short summer holiday excursion.
