Missing home but living in the depths of Southland? Well if you’re from UK or USA, you’re in luck! This lolly shop specialises in sweet treats from those two fair lands. stock up on Haribo, Yorkies or Minstrels. You will skip home in delight once you’ve visited this home away from home.

For a taste of Italy in Te Anau, I recommend Cafe La Dolce Vita. The desserts are a real highlight here and if I had it my way I would order desserts for all three courses (yes, they’re THAT good!). Try the Red velvet roulade and House made limoncello gelato. You won’t be disappointed!

World famous in Te Anau, Kathryn is up to her eyeballs in cake. She often gets booked out months in advance so if you have an event coming up, book a cake with her now! They come in all shapes, sizes and colours and a perfect for any occasion. The chocolate cake is definitely my favourite!

There’s only a couple of cafes to get wifi in Invercargill and Starbucks is one of them. This global brand is famous for their coffee and their green signage you can spot from anywhere. A cosy, comfy and warm place to hang and browse the net. You can’t beat it!

For breakfast, coffee, lunch and cold drinks, Global Byte Cafe is a good place to be. And if you want to search the web for free than it’s an even better place! The guys here are super laid back, friendly and make a mean hot breakfast.

For nice coffee and breakfast, lunch and brunch in Gore, let me introduce you to Cafe Ambience. A modest wee cafe, this place is real value for money. Enjoy the classics like toasted sandwiches, fish and chips and eggs and bacon on toast.

For great coffee, amazing breakfasts and free wifi head to DP 1 in Greymouth. This cafe has been humming for as long as I can remember and is very very unique. In fact, I’d say it’s quintessentially Greymouth. They cater for vegetarians and vegans too!

The West Coast Wildlife Centre in Franz Josef is awesome. Head along for a bit of education on the wild west coast, and whilst you’re there make sure you get to their cute little cafe. Read up about the elusive Kiwi and browse the internet to discover more about this national icon.

Heading to Hokitika? Well you must try Stumpers! They’re not only a bar and cafe but an accommodation provider. They have free Wifi which is awesome and excellent service. After a big night on the town head back to Stumpers and catch up on your favourite series in bed. Just like at home!

Blueskin Nurseries Cafe is a pumping little spot. With plants to purchase and tasty homemade cabinet food to chow down on and free wifi for customers, there’s a lot to love about this little place. Sample the impressive brunch menu and gluten and dairy free orange cakes. They’re the bomb.

Like Turkish food? Then you’ll love Sila! They’re the newest Turkish food provider in town. You won’t be disappointed with their offerings, and you’re bound to linger in one of the Turkish-inspired booths. My favourite dishes are the vegetable wrapped kebabs and Turkish Adana Burger. Yum!

Using Switch espresso beans, this large space has been well used. The Christchurch-owner is really showing how it’s done. This cafe is starting to open evenings too, and there’s a great variety of smoothies and juices. It’s a great little hangout when you’re in need of a pick-me-up.
