The covered back bar at Golden Dawn is a great spot to spend a lazy afternoon, and if your 4 legged friend's well behaved and on a lead you can bring him along for some fun. Their seasonal drink specials are highly recommend - try the punch in the summer and mulled wine in the winter. Your pooch will have to stick to waters though.
I have often found myself at The Golden Dawn late on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The burgundy lined walls and army grey curtains make for a cosy atmosphere and a glass of Hallertau cider with some moreish bread with garlic butter warm the cockles nicely. If you are settling in for a while try one of the slow cooked dishes of tarragon lentils with buffalo mozzerella and pumpking shavings or the lamb, beetroot, dill, cracked wheat meatballs with spiced yoghurt.
I love this bar. So nice to go somewhere classy that has live music. They host a continuous flow of bands and musicians, carefully selected by their very talented Music Manager and infamous Auckland hipster Mr Matthew Crawley. I have discovered several new bands to fall in love with from his selection! This Sunday I am really excited to see The Phoenix Foundation at the bargain price of $10! Check out their website for details of this and other gigs: www.goldendawn.co.nz The venue benefits from the duality of the romantic, moody inside area of polished wood and dim lighting and the large semi-open-air outside area with big picnic tables, a tiki bar and plenty of dancefloor space. The crowd is more subdued during the week, a little more rambunctious at the weekend! Quite a wide age range too. Some quite young, some in their 40’s and most in their mid-20’s to 30’s. And if you like clothes, this place is great for fashion-spotting. The food menu is superb too! They do amazing vegetarian tapas made with beautiful fresh ingredients. The barstaff are experienced, skilled and friendly. Rita is amazing. If you want a cocktail or a shot, ask her to make something up! She always impresses me. Great for a night out hearing some new sounds on the weekend or for a casual drink during the week, Golden Dawn is one of my favourite bars in Auckland. :D
And I'm from the American South so that means something. Seriously, it's awesome. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. All the food I've tried there has been great, actually. And I love trying their punch of the day, it's always interesting and usually delicious. Pretty sweet vibe, it's excessively hipster but in an adorable way.

My partner is always going on about the pulled pork sandwich here! If only I ate meat I'd be there in a heartbeat to try it - it sounds crazy good!!!
