The rain comes down on a depressing Auckland winter day. You duck into Real Groovy seeking shelter from the storm. You leave 3 hours later fulfilled musically and with 3 new CDS and magazine and a ticket to the gig of the year. The sun has come out and all is good. Until you next check your visa statement

Independent and long may it stay

I have been in here only a few times, and not more only because I know that if I stay in there too long I just won't leave. There is a lot of cool inside. I wanted everything. I didn't have to know what it was, but if it came from there, it was cool, and I wanted it. They have a massive range of what can only really be described as 'alternative' stuff. Funnily enough they seem to sell more classic books then Borders and Whitcoulls combined - The girl at Borders actually recommended we try Real Groovy for a book we wanted because their own selection was so rubbish. Walking in was an enlightening experience and I am totally going to return with the intention of spending a lot of money.

They don't make record stores like Real Groovy anymore... where you can still buy vinyl and CD both new & used, bring in your trades for credit, buy tickets to all the best Auckland gigs, get a coffee from the in-store Atomic, or just spend hours digging through the crates. Real Groovy is part of the O.G. bFM family.

I never seem to find the time to put all my unwanted records on trademe and real groovy are more than happy to take them off my hands. Nice and easy, will get more if you prefer Real Groovy credit than the cash, but still a good deal. Cool to see they've sold space to other store in the building, picked up some new shoes while i was there last. a nice one stop shop.

This shop is a wonderland of awesomeness, with cool stuff to buy in every cubic meter. An example of their incredible range:  I went in  planning to buy one book... and came out with some amazing stuff (like Battle Royale the novel, Freddy vs Jason vs Ash the graphic novel, which I'd seen talked about online but had never seen it sold anywhere, Catch 22, The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and a cool t-shirt... an amazing selection you wouldn't find anywhere else)... all in one go :O  There's a reason that this store is such an institution.... it's just an amazing one-of-a-kind place. The shelves are full of cool stuff you'd usually have to buy online. Plus their loyalty card is great, you rack up points quickly because it's so easy to go on a wild spending spree.

Sooo glad the shop was saved, I love this place! Clothes, books, music, film....tickets!! I could spend all day in there and never get bored! Keep it going guys :)

I used to absolutely love this place until they seemed to almost downsize their DVD section in favour of a small coffee stand. Never the less, you can never walk into real groovy without finding yourself sucked into some kind of bargain in their sale bins. Also one of the best places in auckland for vinyl! :D

It's nice to see in the last few years that the customer service has increased hugely, and the extra retro store and clothing area is very dangerous - I'll buy it!
