Slow Boat Records is a great place to visit if you're around Cuba street. These are the kind of record stores that hardly exist any more, and should most definitely be supported. Slow Boat stocks a wide range of contemporary, and classic artists, including T-shirts and memorabilia. Be sure to factor an extra half hour into your time budget because you'll surely need it.

Record stores are a dying breed, but this one just keeps going strong, for fans of pretty much everything, though your unlikely to find any house white labels floating around, a solid selection of new and used and a bunch of other stuff too, well worth a visit if your around Cuba Street.

A real treasure trove! #MORtreat

I have a friend who got the Slow Boat logo as a tattoo. I have a lot of friends that get tattoos. The Slow Boat tattoo is the first one I haven’t cringed a little at. This place is, unironically, the bomb.

The best record shop in the country. Smart people selling smart music in a smart place.

Great place to find records and CDs, both secondhand and new, on Cuba St. The staff are friendly and helpful, and while prices can be a bit steep, quality and selection are pretty exceptional. Don’t be surprised if you walk in looking for one specific album and walk out with that one, plus a handful more.

Slow Boat is the place to find out what you’ll be listening to this time next year. Find any opportunity to quiz the staff on what they’re listening to and loving, because in a few months you’ll be doing the same.

Vinyl, and not the type you wear as pants. The musical kind has made a big resurgence and Slow Boat is the place to get old and new tunes on the stuff.

You "could" describe Slow Boat as one of the best record stores in New Zealand, but comparatively speaking, it might be one of the best record stores in the world. For early 20th century music, classic jazz, country, rock, soul, folk and beyond, Slow Boat has an amazing selection of both vinyl and CDs. The staff are extremely sharp and knowledgeable as well. This is one of those places where taking a recommendation is well recommended.

The demise of the "record" shop is truly a sad thing. For many, spending their lunch hour pursuing the shelves at their local independent store is a distant memory. Youtube and Spotify have, for better or worse, left us music geeks with a slender choice. Slow Boat, however, has weathered the corporate, electronic storm and is the place to pick up CDs, LPs and even posters in the capital. On the very rare occasion I actually purchase a hard CD, this is where I invariably head. A Cuba Street stalwart.
