Swim T3 is owned by a South African family and they are lovely, very friendly and they offer very sensible, practical advice. The lady who runs this store, and her son, helped me find a wetsuit when I was doing a training course - and she gave me advice on the best way to get it on (not always easy with a wetsuit!) and even provided me with plastic bags for my hands and feet to take away with me. This is what I call stellar service - going the extra mile. They have a wide range of swimming togs for beach, leisure and sport and fitting rooms and sizing charts to help you find the perfect fit. If you're after togs, you're in the right hands.

If you've got a plane trip coming up, like I did, check out these guys for ear wax removal - so you can be sure that you won't get sore ears on the plane. It's a very useful service and at a good rate. Appointments easy to make by phone or email and they're quick and friendly to reply. Highly recommended.

My best experience at this great pharmacy was getting passport photos - the shop assistant was v. helpful and took a lot of shots to make sure my head was on the right angle/the light was reflecting in the right way. Very professional. You can also print your own photos here at the handy machines. Highly recommended.

Calvin the Pharmacist at Hataitai Pharmacy is one of a kind - friendly, organised and efficient, he always fills scripts in short turn-around time and is always free to answer any queries on the phone. The pharmacy has good opening hours and even has a postal service. Excellent customer service and a pleasure to be a customer of his.

I’ve been a member of a few gyms, but none have kept me going back like Habit. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the premises are spotless and motivating in a kind of approachable way – the "cult of fitness" thing is a lot more low-key at Habit than it is at many other big-name gyms (naming no names), and I love it. Including fluffy, hotel-quality towels as part of your membership is a surefire way to get you back three times a week, too.

Health 2000 is my go-to when I’m on the hunt for a hard-to-find supplement or nutritious snack to kick-start my healthy eating. I’ve found the staff there to be helpful and informed, and there are often deals on that makes their prices competitive against the budget-brand supplements at supermarkets or pharmacies.

If you’re eating to a particular diet, eating out can be a minefield, but what I like about Tank Juice Bar is what you see is what you get – no hidden nasties here, and even the medium size will fill you up for at least a couple of hours. You can also add goodies like vitamin and spirulina shots for an extra boost.

Instead of trailing the aisles of your local New World for that tricky ingredient listed in a trendy recipe you found on Tumblr or Pinterest, head to Commonsense Organics – it might be a bit pricy, but it will be there, and it will be fresh, organic and great for you. Outdoor there is a thriving community of lawn bowlers Inside there is an active social club, good food, friendly atmosphere, quiz nights, snooker and a regular Tuesday evening Tai Chi class.

Where else can you buy a bamboo toothbrush, organic grains, kombucha and vegan wine. I mean, does everyone not live like this? No. They don't because Commonsense is pretty expensive actually. But also, It's a great place to buy staples, and they do have almost everything under one roof.

Organic Boxes is a delivery service that brings fresh, wholesome, high quality organic produce right to your door. The boxes range in size, and each contain a selection of fruit and vegetables. You order which size box you would like, as well as any additional dairy products, eggs, or coffee, pay for it online, and it appears magically to your doorstep! What a dream.

Though you wouldn’t necessarily expect it, Yan’s is a treasure trove of cheap, organic finds, from exotic rices and grains to teas and medicinal mushrooms (most mushrooms are inherently organic due to their sensitivity to pesticides). Yan’s is always a treat to visit, regardless of your reason for being there; you’ll always find something interesting and delicious.

People’s coffee offers a wholesome, feel good coffee experience, right down to the friendly, knowledgable staff. Specialising in fair trade organic coffee, made with Zany Zeus organic milk to boot, People’s is just a great business. The flagship store is tucked up on Constable street in Newtown, but you can find the delicious coffee at numerous cafes around the Wellington region, such as Milkcrate, and Vicbooks cafe.

Little Bird Organics is coming to Wellington! Ok, don't get too excited, it's just for on weekend, for the merrymaking that is Wellington on a Plate. Disappointingly short though their stay is, you can get in on the deliciousness via ticketek, for one of the multicourse, undoubtedly amazing showcases at Prefab Hall on the 15th-16th of August.

Believe the nacho hype! Check out the sticky ribs as well, pricey but oh so worth it. A Courtenay Place icon with plenty of loyal punters make 'Sweet Mos' perpetually busy, be it serving early morning cups of Joe or late night jugs of margarita. No bookings so get in early, and pack the trilby and the tweed to blend in.

Living just next door to this place last year, it's fair to say I got well acquainted with these nuts. Literally every different kind of nut you could list if you could be bothered. But not just that, for these guys are also specialists in spices and seeds. Must be seen to be believed. 

Perhaps the hippest little cafe on Cuba, serving inexpensive gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian treats until (very!) late. As you might expect, the Havana coffee served here is amongst the best in town. There is a mind-boggling amount of choice here, if you're anything like me you'll need a good five minutes to take it all in. All day brunch is a winner, the vegan hash brown stack being an absolute high point, whilst you really should believe the nacho hype. Hipster and student friendly.

Waterfront, Te Papa, Harbourside. How you moniker it is probably dependent on your age, length of time spent in Wellington and what your mates call it. What I think we can all agree on is how amazing this place is on a sunday morning. Economical veggies, amazingly filling rotis and the freshest fish in town. Great place to ease into what, chances are, will be a painful sunday morning.

The flagshack cafe of the ubiquitous brand Caffe L’affare. As one would expect, the coffee here is first-class, served in a spacious environment while the stream of people coming in and out of the door is almost a fixture. Perhaps avoid coming here mid-morning over the weekend, but pouring over their extensive magazine selection with a brew in hand on the tables outside on a good day is an inner city treat.

So difficult to kick and punch but fun trying

Perfect for going for a casual run on a sunny day and doing a spot of people watching while you’re running past the beach areas. P.S The scenic view isn’t bad either.
