You have to go Hobbiton, it's awesome. Went with some friends recently and had one of those moments that made me feel proud to be a Kiwi. Our tour guide (Liam) had a passion and knowledge for the movies, the Hobbiton set and made our tour exceptional (thanks Liam). The farm that Hobbiton is on is huge and as a tourist visiting NZ it's a great way to see a working farm in NZ and the stunning outlook of the NZ country side. The bus ride into the set had a very informative video with a message from Peter Jaskson and a member of the Alexander family who own the farm. Thanks for an awesome day and a great tour

    It's official! Hobbits aren't big fans of Pokemon but there's a whole lotta lures here to catch the Pokemon you need to take you to another level. Talk about combining two fantasy worlds in one reality. No doubt the most surreal place in NZ to play Pokemon Go.

      Hobbiton Movie Set and Farm Tours is the ultimate in kids activities over the holidays. While it’s a wee bit on the pricey side, it’s totally worth it (even in Winter). A booked bus picks visitors up from the Matamata information site and takes you right into Hobbiton, It’s actually like stepping in a magical world of hobbits, and the cutest little burrows. Kids will love taking a bunch of photos, pretending they’re part of the set, and visiting Bilbo’s home

        OMG what can I say?? It's absolutely amazing - been more than once it was so great. My husband hasn't seen the movies or read the books, doesn't even know what a Hobbit is... but he now has an appreciation for the movies and just how Peter Jackson has put us on the map!! I love the Green Dragon and the Apple Cider is so thirst quenching. I can't wait to go again!!

          Had a fantastic time at the Hobbiton site! The staff were very knowledgeable on the the site. Took lots of pretty photos and also found out alot of interesting facts on the site. It is well worth the price! Will definitely recommend the tour to everyone I know!

            Had a wonderful time. Well worth the cost. Went on the first tour of the day. Great to get in before the crowds. Lots of lovely photos. Very sunny day. Tour guide had lots of good info. . Cafe was a bit slow in service. But food was good. Clean hot food at good prices. Id recommend it.

              I love the Lord of the Rings stories and feel like their magic splays into the NZ countryside. To continue the fantasy, take a set tour in Matamata. You’ll be surprised at how film experts transform places and learn lots about the history of the area.

                Great authentic movie set right in the middle of rural Waikato. Awesome to be able to walk up to Bagend, the sit under the party tree and to have an Ale at the Green Dragon.

                  Visit the set which remains exactly how it was seen in the movie and learn about it's creation. The kids will love this. You can even hire The Green Dragon Inn for private themed functions, for all those fanatics.

                    If you're a fan of LOTR you will love this place, nice tour complete with cheesy jokes and information on the films. Ends with a beer!
