    The Bresolin
    Wellington Central
Newcomer to the scene, I’ve already loved this place before, but it deserves a mention in here. Up the top of Willis Street, it features an excellent menu and some sweet extras. Stay in tune with them for Sunday roasts (roasted in the courtyard, before your eyes) and other food based happenings. It also has a well-groomed drinks menu for you to enjoy in their lush outdoor area. Open early til late every day.

It’s next to impossible to make a list about the best restaurants in Wellington without mentioning this place. Featuring some guy that sometimes pop up on TV as the owner (the other one now lives in Auckland and has some new excellent things going on as well), it is an excellent place to fine dine. From regular degustation’s to an excellently curated menu, if you have the expendable income, you must dine here at least once if you’re at Wellington. Open for lunch on Friday and Saturday, high tea just on Saturday and dinner Tue-Sat.

    Capitol Restaurant
    Mount Victoria
Situated just at the end of the hustling Courtney Place nightlife, beside the Embassy Theatre. Capitol is a restaurant you can trust, a well-rounded menu, with fantastic service sees everyone pleased. The food is mainly European, and with enough variety to please every kind of customer. A safe, sure bet in wellington with outstanding food. Open lunch through dinner with brunch hours on the weekend.

    5
    Charley Noble
    Wellington Central
A relative newcomer that’s another one I’ve raved about before, it’s a must visit in my eyes, with excellent service and a fantastic menu. Open for lunch as well as dinner down in the CBD of Wellington, if you get the chance to come in for a meal, do it , you won’t be disappointed. Check out the pork belly or the house pot pie if you can’t decide for yourself, or just ask the staff, as they will give you great advice to ensure you get what you want.

On Cuba St, El Matador aims to make you feel like you’re in ‘old world’ Buenos Aires. The best way to go about eating here is getting the share platters; my personal favourites are the steak plate and the butterflied leg of lamb. You can also just grab an array of plates of the tapas menu and that would be more than plenty for your meal. Another excellent restaurant in Wellington! Open for Lunch thru Dinner everyday!

Whenever I want to splurge a bit on a meal I come to Flying Burrito Brothers. This place is fantastic! From the awesome little underground restaurant, amazing frozen cocktails and great service this place has it all. I always order the chicken fajita, can't go past it! And the banana chimichangas are so good too :)

This is the best place for a friendly, casual BYO in the city. With a range of Asian meals on offer, Cinta delivers not only fantastic food but at a great price and with a smile :) the pad thai is the best ;)

Strawberry Fare is amazing!! I come here just for the dessert alone, and always make sure I eat no dinner beforehand because these desserts are huge. I can recommend the banaffi pie, the caramel hazelnut torte, the creme brulee, the warm raspberry drenched chocolate cake and the blackforest tower! All so good.

I can vouch that Mexican hot spot Flying Burrito Bros Cantina and Tequileria on the corner of Cuba/Vivian is as exotic as its name suggests. Check out the flash upstairs bar and sample an impressive array of tequilas while you wait for a table. I would recommend you check it out if you’re after a bustling vibe and a spicy menu for your special occasion.

    4
    Steer And Beer
    Wellington Central
What can I say? There's a lot of meat on the premises at Steer & Beer and all of it delicious in classy, laid-back bar surroundings. You can check out their website if you want to choose your eats before you dine there. They've got a lunch and dinner menu, all very meat-laden, as well as an extensive beverage selection and a kids' menu - so very family-friendly. They also run regular special deals and offers such as the current Sunday Roast Pork Special for $14.50 - 100% NZ pork! Yum.

Great place to mix and mingle and make some new friends. A chilled out vibe, grab a game of pool and a drink with mates. Right next to Electric Avenue if you want to make your night a little longer.
  4. 4
    3
    Newkor
    Wellington Central
This is a cosy, super tasty Korean on Dixon. Check out a tempting menu in the window to see their specials, hot plates of all sorts starting at $15-16. Karaoke upstairs and always busy on weekends. Easy to see why.

It's chicken, it's delicious and it's at Nando's on Courtenay. If you're after chicken, you're in the right place. They've got a great deal on - buy any large Nando's chicken meal and get a Reading cinema ticket (next door!) for just $13.

Miss10 will jump through hoops for the Mee Goreng, mild , no seafood. Love the roti, the fresh cooked stuffed with egg and onion is a must try.

I shouldn’t tell you about this place as I don’t want to share really but that hurts my inner foodie. You need to book in the evening, it is BYO beer and wine. We go for lunch on a Saturday and love the fresh and tasty food. Not going to recommend a dish as you should just try them all. A walk to the outside loo takes you through the kitchen, great for a nose around. Warning, the portions are huge.

Yes, it is in Tawa but parking is easy. Tawa has a couple of little gems and this is one of them. They have an excellent 3 course plus a drink kids meal. It is a real menu without the fried rubbish. The grown up food is excellent too and they know how to do spice. I love their Chicken Laab.

If you haven’t been, you must. I particularly love their weekend brunch masala dosa and the husband loves the chicken biryani. Miss loves the roti and the chicken tikka masala. The roti are very fresh and very cheap. It is not the prettiest place but the service is lovely.

Particularly like this one as it is next to a great pub. The interior is lovely, not reflected on the outside. The pizza is delicious and the kind that you finish and consider ordering another but know you would die if you did.

Wednesday’s and Sat’s = 2 for 1! Great when you’re on a budget (I mean who has $14 for a drink??) Love to pre-drink here with a snack since I’m getting bang for my buck. The cocktails are yum too although I love anything sweet

Again here’s another deal one haha 2 for 1 teapots on saturday One of the better deals in my opinion since you’re getting a jug of alcohol at $20 each… I like being able to get 2 for $20. I think they’re super refreshing and super yum too.

Absolutly love the chocolate one I got, Have no idea what it was called but simply delicious and so much effort put in as well! It wasn’t busy so that may be why but she really went the extra mile and even put pocky stick on top. Heavenly.

Slushy cocktails? Yup. Sooo good I normally try not to get anything with tequila in it but I make an exception for the slushy cocktails! They change as well so expect a variety.

You’re almost guaranteed to get a good drink at a Mexican place but one of the best MOCKtails I’ve ever had was here, I got a G9? Something like that and It was amazing! Could turn it into a cocktail I’m sure… I’d suggest sitting at the bar as the food didn’t exactly win me over.

Although we had to wait twenty minutes for a table, twenty minutes for service and half an hour for our food it didn’t matter. It was worth it. I had a flat white, their infamous Snickers milkshake and the Fidel’s Feast (pictured). The coffee was on point and the thickshake was huge. The ‘feast’ was just what I needed (being slightly hungover). Tasty meats, juicy mushroomd and perfect poached eggs. Recommended.

Sweet Mother’s Kitchen makes southern American food that’s good for the soul. The Wellington staple has a warm and inviting vibe and the quirky staff are clued up and friendly. I ate a pulled pork poe boy, shared a swamp dip (spinach and cheese dip) and got a serving of curly fries for the table. TASTY feel good food. Be prepared to wait for a table as it is usually packed.

    Tommy Millions
    Wellington Central
We were in a rush last night for dinner so we grabbed a couple of slices of pizza from Tommy Millions. The service was fast and friendly and the pizza was tasty. The flavours were simple but the real star was the base, light and not too chewy.

    Plum Cafe
    Te Aro
Plum Café is another of the spots I like to get to when in Wellington. It’s a great spot to grab a seat outside and watch the non-stop action of Cuba St. The coffee is always good and the food is pleasant. Pictured is the bread with dips, a tasty little in between meals snack. Great little spot if you’re looking to get a coffee on Cuba St.
