A permanent fixture on the ‘best restaurant’ lists since 1986, Prego still stands tall as one of the best dining choices in Ponsonby. An emphasis on simple Italian food with the best-quality ingredients means Prego’s menu features some firm favourites, with many seasonal variations to surprise and delight even the pickiest ‘foodie’.

Alfresco and indoor dining, fabulous award-winning food and friendly and attentive staff – running a great restaurant is an art, yet Prego makes the whole experience seem effortless. And for that we say ‘grazie’.

The fish special, the pizza’ s and the service. Frankly it delivers every time

The dishes at Prego are absolutely delicious, top that off with friendly staff and the experience for me is always an enjoyable one. I have never tasted better Pasta dishes and the Calamari rings are to die for!

This Italian restaurant might not jump to mind as the best place to go for a cocktail, but believe it or not, Prego is home to my favourite cocktail in Auckland (and when it comes to good cocktails, let’s just say I’ve been around…) Their passionfruit caipiroska - made with Finlandia Vodka, 42 Below Passionfruit, Fresh Lime, Sugar and real passionfruit pulp - is, for lack of a better description, "the bomb". The delicious food doesn’t hurt either!

My little slice of Italia. I try to come here as often as I can and when I do I love every minute of it.

This restaurant is always busy and consistently good food is always being served

a winner great food and wine in stunning atmosphere.

In my opinion, despite its popular outdoor area Prego Restaurant is the perfect spot for dining come winter on Ponsonby Road. As well as having a collection of blankets for those still insisting on dining al fresco, they have the heartiest lasagne in town as well as two risotto offerings and lashings of stellar red wine options to wash it all down. This doesn’t even include their legendary pizza, which has fans all over the world. A legend for a reason, with fare that keeps them coming back for more.

Yes it's pretty cold out there these past few days. But Prego has their outside area perfectly tempered.  Loads of outdoor heaters kept it cosy enough to enjoy the fresh air!

Where in the world would we be without Prego. I certainly would be at a loss without it. The fish of the day is an absolute winner every time, always slightly different but always served on a lovely risotto with a sauce.

We've been going back to Prego since we discovered it. Share a pizza and get a pile of sides and a dessert - delicious! The primavera tomato salad is worth it!
