- 18Stumpers Bar and CafeHokitikaThe bar on everyone’s lips in Hokitika is Stumpers Bar and Cafe. Not only a full service hotel but a place to get rowdy, play pool and catch up with friends. The garlic prawns here are excellent, especially washed down with a whisky sour.
- 23Monsoon Bar & RestaurantFranz JosefThis Franz bar is always a good place to warm up after a day in the ice. The pasta, burgers and lamb shanks are always my favourite dishes and I like to further warm up with a glass of hot mulled wine.

I love its heritage building on Mawhera Quay, as well as their menu featuring everything from calamari and eggs benedict to seafood chowder and steak sandwiches.
- 51Berlins Cafe & Jetski toursWestportThis place is a real delight. Located next to the river, there’s a lot I love about Berlins Cafe & Bar Restaurant (and jetski tours!). Expect classic Kiwi fare coupled with a small but perfectly formed selection of beverages.

- 23The Moose Bar & RestaurantTe AnauThis family friendly bar and restaurant has the best view of any bar in Southland. The beer selection is small but perfectly formed and the dinners here are massive and very hearty. Try the steak with garlic prawns, it’s my favourite ….
- 34I love this Gore establishment. The Heineken Bar is warm and sophisticated with cosy seating and a nice fireplace. The food is very warming on a cold day and they have a great wine list to wash down your meal with.
- 47Waxy O'Shea's Irish PubInvercargillWho doesn’t love a good Irish Pub? Waxy’s is a favourite of mine because of their awesome live music and Irish-themed decor. The Guiness of course is always on point and you can’t beat their bowls of hot chips too!

So cute and quaint in a little cottage, it’s always great when there is live music on and the lunch and dinner meals are so delicious. Try the local venison or salmon for a taste of Southland.

- 15Toast BarDunedin CentralThis place is my number one bar in Otago because of their epic cocktails. Simple! The staff are always up for a good chat and the atmosphere is always great because the place is always going off. It’s a wicked bar!
- 24CarouselDunedin CentralThis sophisticated cocktail bar is a favourite of mine for their tasty cocktails, low seating and the place isn’t ever packed so you get to chat to your friends whilst listening to the live music. It’s a very very nice place to spend a Saturday night.
- 33Pig and WhistleQueenstownAn English pub in the heart of Queenstown and during the depths of winter is hard to beat. Pints of ale, hot chips, a fireplace and an epic view make Pig and Whistle one of my favourite bars in all of Otago.
- 42The BunkerQueenstownQueenstown’s best kept secret, The Bunker is a very hard place to find. This cocktail bar and private dining lounge is a super cool place to kick your feet up and unwind with a couple of bevvies. The cocktail list is impressive (particularly their list of martinis!).
- 52It might not be the classiest of names but Fat Sally’s will impress when you get inside and head to a table. The staff here are so very friendly and I love quiz night and when the band is on. Always a great night out!

- 36Shop Eight & RekindleChristchurch CentralShop Eight has now become a wine bar, and a really good one. Wine from around the country fills in the wine list and the locally sourced meats and veggies come cured and picked for a build your own platter. It’s so good!
