If you have not tried there pizzas than you have not lived! If you are a true Pizza Lover then this is were you wanna be If you want a pizza that is as big as your table i suggest trying the large sized pizza. Epolitos is an authentic New York styled pizzeria. The bases are made fresh everyday by the pizza chef which is a friend of mine who is originally from New York and has the accent to go with it. If you are someone who loves classic italian pizzas then try the margherita if not there are a lot more to choose from on the menu, if you are a more modern or something different kind of person I suggest trying the artichoke heart, Anchovy and lemon pizza it will blow your mind and give you a whole new look on how pizzas should taste and look.

Healthy takeaway options

    Wok Express
    Kingsland
Wok Express does amazing takeaways – the drunken noodles is my favourite. Their dishes have lots of vegetables, and are pan-fried with broth rather than oil, making them an awesome choice for an easy, inexpensive, healthy dinner.

    Fusion Sushi
    Auckland Central
By far my favourite sushi place. The sushi is huge, delicious, and I love that I can pick out exactly what I want from the cabinet at the front.

Fatboy Thai is a BYO sitdown restaurant that also offers takeaway. The mains are reasonably priced, I’ve tried several different curries and they’re good but I can’t recommend the Tom Kha Gai enough – it’s perfect.
  4. 4

Mexicali is pretty much the best in general, and it’s my favourite guilt-free takeaways. You can pick and choose exactly what goes in your burritos, and they have a "naked" option if you’re carb-conscious.
  5. 5
    6
Pizza doesn’t normally come to mind when you’re looking for healthy takeaways, but if you are trying to be good and are finding it hard to resist the temptation of pizza, Crust has a "healthier choice" menu that satisfies both requirements. These pizzas skip the thick layer of cheese and are topped with wholesome things like fresh spinach, tomatoes, avocado, and chicken. Even better, all their nutrition info is easily available on the website.

BHB Fisheries has been my staple takeaway shop for over 15 years. Don't let its humble store front and creaky screen door fool you; BHB Fisheries is the bastion of quality fish n chips for miles around.

Muzza's Pies is a family-owned pie shop which hand-makes their products from 3am every single day. The quality and homeliness of their pies are impeccable, and with an average price point of $4.00, Muzza's has no parallel in Auckland.
  3. 3
    4
    Bake & Beans
    Mt Roskill
Bake & Beans is an independent Indian bakery on Dominion Road. They create all of their products from scratch yet maintain a factory level of consistency. They also bake their own cakes and have made-to-order options - the perfect place to get a custom birthday cake created. I recommend getting a butter chicken or lamb mince and cheese pie - $4.00.

If you drive past in the evening and see hordes of people queued outside the Sandringham shops, it's almost certainly for this Indian cuisine. Paradise serves impeccable, authentic food at very reasonable prices, and I don't hesitate in making the 15-minute drive to pick up a sizeable $10 biryani dish just for my lunch. There are two aspects to Paradise Indian: the restaurant and the takeaway. The former does not take telephone bookings - people are seated on a first-come first-served basis. However, if you are buying as a takeaway make sure to phone the takeaway and place your order in advance so that your food will be ready when you arrive.

A day trip to Mangere exclusively to eat an assortment of pancakes, ice cream, and fresh strawberries can be easily justified when you're visiting The Strawberry Farm. Be aware that they accept cash only, with no EFTPOS available.

A friend of the family took my daughter and I there. She wanted to thanks us for helping her. I enjoyed it so much, I want to go back. It was $12 for the medium sized 2 meat meal. And boy, I loved it. It was filling, not greasy and so filling.

Best places to get an American-sized meal

  1. 1
    26
This is about as close to the typical American chain restaurant as you can get. Country-western style decor, country music and massive portion sizes. The meals are even named after American superstars like Johnny Cash. It’s reasonably priced, the food is yummy and there’s not a chance you’ll go home feeling hungry. When you order the Lonestar loaf starter, you literally get a full-sized loaf of bread with garlic butter!

    The Mexican Cafe
    Auckland Central
The Mexican Café on Victoria Street is cozy and always bustling on a Friday night. They have a great little balcony and you can order margaritas by the pitcher just for yourself. The meals are pretty big - I always leave feeling satisfied, and as someone used to American portions that’s no easy feat! They also bring you a free bowl of taco chips and salsa to start. Sold.
  3. 3
    47
    Wildfire Churrascaria
    Auckland Central
A traditional Brazilian BBQ, Wildfire is all you can eat meat and sides. What more could you want? For those unfamiliar with the Brazilian BBQ structure, you get a little token to put on your table - one side is coloured green for go and the other side is red for stop. If you leave your token on the green side, the waiters will literally just continuously come around to your table with various skewers of meat for the taking. You also get a tower of veges and potatoes (which you can refill at any time) to accompany the meat overload. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but not hard to get your money’s worth with all you can eat!

I am obsessed with the Ponsonby Food Court! With 11 different restaurants from 11 different cuisines, there’s something for everyone. All of the portions are nice and big and every single restaurant has delicious food. If you get the jumbo sized plate from the Chinese restaurant, you basically get enough food to feed an entire family!
  5. 5

Okay, I know it’s fast food, but we’re talking about American portions so there was bound to be at least one burger joint on the list! I am not normally a fast food person, but Burgerfuel is my one exception. Huge, gourmet burgers (that are actually made to order!), kumara fries and an L&P - the perfect hangover cure.

    Toto' Pizza
    Auckland Central
Toto's legendary Pizza by the Metre is a sure bet when feeding a crowd. Available in a dozen flavour combinations, you can also order half-half versions so everyone wins. This is a rare situation where quantity doesn't compromise quality - every last bite is delicious. Pick up from their central Auckland location or choose to have your pizzas delivered to surrounding suburbs.

    Big J's Takeaways
    Mt Wellington
Big J's has been setting the standard for the best burgers in town for awhile now, and if you are lucky enough to live near this institution, you'd better make the most of it! Everything is entirely handmade from scratch - burger patties, the buns, and especially the sauces. Pick up some burgers to takeaway in time to watch the game - and don't forget a large order of their sweet potato fries.
  3. 3
    10
    Thai Kitchen
    Henderson
Thai Kitchen is a firm West Auckland favourite and for good reason. The decor may be sparse but the food is top notch - tasty, generous and made with love. The Chicken & cashews is a classic, and the spiciness of their fierier dishes can be adjusted to suit your adventurous (or timid) tastes. Grab it all to go for a Thai feast at home.

    8
If you live on the Shore, there's only one place to go for burgers and that's The Flaming Onion. This beloved takeaway joint has elevated the humble burger to the best it can be, using corn-fed chicken infused with garlic and thyme, handmade Angus beef patties and the freshest of produce to satiate even the most discerning of burger connoisseurs.

Sometimes only a curry will do. Raja's Indian has a great takeaway menu for those wanting a feast in the comfort of their own couch. Try the butter chicken - amazing!

We’d heard a lot about Mercury Plaza and their sushi - namely that it is insane value and extremely delicious! Curious, we headed there on a Sunday night and it is hands down the best food court experience I’ve had. Not fancy at all but you can buy a beer from the mini market and enjoy the delicious and cheap sashimi till your heart’s content.

We love New Flavour! The dumplings are amazing, the eggplant and kumara are a must order - and free green tea! Perfect place for a massive group hang which will never set you back more than $15 per person. Beware the dumpling burps however!
