Went to Kelly Tarlton's to experience the underwater world sea creatures. It was truly an absolutely amazing experience and we enjoyed it very much. Will definitely be taking my family for a beautiful underwater world experience.

    Snowplanet
    Silverdale
WOW, what a fantastic place for all people who love snow. I went with a group of friends and we truly enjoyed ourselves very much. As we had never experience what snow was like, our time at snowplanet was amazing. We did skiing and going up the cable car. Though it was a challenge we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

As we had bought vouchers, we went to Lilliputt Mini Golf and enjoyed the golfing. Its really fun when you go with a group of friends. Everyone was in competition with each other trying to see who can get the ball in the hole with the minimum about of golfing. As we go from one round to the other, it becomes harder but also gets more fun.

    Metrolanes Bowling
    Auckland Central
The whole family was really happy that a new bowling place called Metrolanes Bowling has opened right in the heart of Auckland City. It is centrally located in the same building as the Event Cinemas, which makes it a perfect indoor activity for the entire family. We had a very enjoyable time playing bowling. Looking forward to taking my best friends down for a game of bowling.

Kids adventure outings

We go to Kelly Tarlton's at least once a year on camp - and that means we get to sleep over, right in the tunnel under the aquarium where you can see the sharks swimming above you all night. This is an amazing place. They have huge 300kg Stingrays, a giant squid (dead of course) and so many other attractions. It also changes every year. The first year I saw mantis shrimp which are a great find!

I love coming here for parties or relaxation times with the kids. They are always happy to spend a few hours climbing the enormous fig trees or going on adventures down by the massive redwoods. We spent some fun times feeding leaves to cows too! There are toilet facilities nearby and a fancy restaurant if you'd like some delicious tea and scones.
  3. 3
    9
This is a great venue for parties. We spent a whole day here, tiring out kids. There's trampolines of course but also tarzan ropes and climbing areas.
  4. 4
    2
This is a very good high energy kids party place! The staff are great, safety is well monitored. You'll probably want to bring some adults to help belay kids up the wall - or to climb themselves. You don't need ropes to go "bouldering", which is climbing under an overhang. If you fall off you just end up on mats, something I did plenty.

    Muriwai Beach
    Muriwai Beach
This is my favourite beach, we often come here for walks with the kids or do a bit of body surfing. The waves are wild so I stay quite shallow with young kids and we always have a good time. The perfectly calm swimming pool beaches on the east coast are better for really young kids. Another attraction here is the Gannet colony, quite a sight. We sometimes grab some food in Kumeu and park at the beach to eat and watch the sunset.

Things to do with kids

  1. 1

A long spacious golden sand mild west Auckland beach! Great for the kids, together with a loooonnnnnggg wide stretch of mowed grass for cricket, frisbee, soccer touch, volleyball etc. Several changing rooms and loos and freshwater showers just off the beach. Tons of shade under the pohutakawas that strech along the miles of beach. Best 2 hours either side of high tide (just Google it).

She’s free to Aucklanders. Take a household bill and they’ll sort you out a free card to to flash each time you come. Craft activities for the kids need a gold coin donation. free lockers in the Kai room above the atrium, or the bagcheck in the foyer. Loads to see. Great on a wet day or if you’re too sunned out.

    Auckland Art Gallery
    Auckland Central
Free entry. Free kids activities on the first floor. Have a wander around but don’t touch! The cafe is very good - the sausage rolls are probably the best in Auckland, and then there’s the scones…. But if you just want coffee use the expresso bar on the top floor as there’s hardly ever a queue. Free compulsory bag check but cameras allowed and keep your sunnies for sprawling on the curvy bench on the back of the top floor. Choice bro.

Devonport. She’s free, mate. TAKE CARDBOARD. Drive to the top or park at the bottom and follow the spiral path to the summit with older kids. Awesome views, great for a picnic. Slide down the sides on your cardboard like a boss. You’ll find plenty of slide tracks the locals use, fast, slow, the odd jump, evn one for the littlies. Make like a local and have a fab time, The kids will remember this one :) Do the decent thing and put some money into the local economy by buying them all an iceblock afterwards. Priceless.

    27
Or any swimming pool. Kids are free, you can even take your own food and drinks. hydroslide is an extra $2 that you need to pay on entry - the wristband then gives unlimited slides, although there’s usually a 5 min queue. Try Mount Albert if you’re not out west or the Parnell Pools in the summer if your kids are little (take a sun shelter tho)

The rocking ship's cabin really captivates what it must have felt like below decks and after the kids have had a good look throughout, you can have afternoon brunch in the cafe outside

A room full of books

  1. 1
    29
Hard to Find is a dream come true for the ultimate book lover. There is something ridiculously romantic about a rickety little book shop which is packed to the rafters with books from bygone eras. Don’t be surprised if you get lost amongst the shelves, there are over 90,000 books to tempt you. If you are a sucker for that new book smell then this is not the place for you. There is nothing like opening book, knowing that you are not the first to have fallen deep within its pages. The books, just like the store they call home, have character and that’s just what is so special about this place.
  2. 2
    9
Modern cookbooks, with their glossy pages and beautiful photography are extremely seductive and Cook the Books have an amazing selection to whet your appetite. Before you fall into the neverending world of food blogs, take a visit to Cook the Books and check out what they have on offer. There is no denying that the sign of a well used cookbook is its pages splattered with batter and curry sauce, and if you are anything like me I’d hate to see your laptop screen. Some things just don’t translate well on a screen and cookbooks are something to pass down through the generations. Stop in find your next family favourite. Word of advice: this is probably not the best place to visit if you are hungry
  3. 3
    9
As you can probably tell from the name, Mag Nation sells an amazing selection of magazines from near and far. Perhaps what they are least known for are their array of hardcover books. There is no denying that it is the magazines that make this place a must visit, but before you head there next remember to keep in mind that little shelf to the right. There are most definately some treasures waiting to be discovered.

    Unity Books Limited
    Auckland Central
The day I discovered Unity Books was the day an already poor uni student fell deeper into the trap that is self inflicted poverty. I may not have been able to afford the latest trends but when you fall in love none of that superficial stuff matters. I am telling you now, you are going to fall in love with Unity Books. My favourite section and the one I make a B Line for is the aptly named shelf ‘Brain Stuff’, perfect for a knowledge thirsty twenty - something like myself. Just go.

    Real Groovy Auckland
    Auckland Central
We all know that Real Groovy have an AMAZING selection of music, like ah-mazing. What I want to draw attention to is the equally awesome selection of books. These are books for the cultured; think tattoos, graphic novels, warzone photography and biographies of music legends. These are books for those who crave more, those who dream big and those who live life loud. Prepare to double the time you spend here once you discover the books on offer!
