Amazing! If you are going away or just want to treat your little best friend, this is the place for you. They offer all options for boarding and even long term stay. Grooming and training, even photography! They will probably take better care of your dog than you! :p But on a serious note, this should be your first choice, especially if you're in west auckland. k9 Heaven rule!

We have used David from NSPS a number of times to look after our house and feed our 2 cats, he always lets us know that everything is going great by constant communication which i love. I recommend David to any one who is going away or needs their animals looked after. Will be using again for our next holiday. Thanks

Leaving your pet at the Strand Veterinarian, you know he or she will be in good hands. The staff are super nice and willing to answer any and all questions you might have. They took very good care of my not-so-little kitty when he visited recently and I’ll definitely be going back next time he needs to see a vet.

When we first got our cat we went to PetStop for the essentials. The staff were really helpful in their suggestions and were totally not judgemental that we wanted to walk our cat on a leash. They were able to engrave a tag for us with kitty’s name and our phone number, and the prices were pretty reasonable. Definitely worth a visit if you need something for your feline (or canine) friend.

This is an awesome organisation that rescues and rehomes abandoned cats. If you’re thinking of adding a cat to the family, or are looking for a companion for your current cat, go see Lonely Miaow to adopt an adorable de-wormed, de-flead, de-sexed, vaccinated and microchipped kitty.

If your cat needs de-sexing, the SPCA will do it for significantly cheaper than most veterinarians - just $70, and even less if you’ve got a community services card. If you can get out to Mangere it’s definitely worth the savings.

I love being able to browse a pet shop from my couch while wearing pyjamas. Pet.co.nz has a huge range - pretty much everything you could ever think of to buy for your cat (or other pet), from cheap and cheerful to luxury items. It’s super easy, and delivery is free if you spend $40 or more.

Ti Point Reptile Park is a huge hit with the little ones, and a great chance to learn more about these fascinating living dinosaurs. Situated in a secluded valley covered with native bush and overlooking the sea, the Reptile Park displays a unique collection of both native and exotic reptiles that will keep kids amused for hours.

    Auckland Zoo
    Western Springs
In our family visits to Auckland Zoo are a big deal and happen on a very regular basis. It is definitely one of our happy places on a sunny winter’s afternoon, when you are highly likely to see more than a few animals soaking up the warm rays along with the visitors. Check their website for animal encounter times when you can pop in and see your favourite friends up close and personal, you might even get to feed them if you’re lucky!

Animates Mount Eden Road store is always full of beautiful, cuddly - or in the case of lizards, maybe not so cuddly - pets that my son loves to ‘check in on’ every so often. They also have SPCA animals available for adoption, so you can be sure that puppy mills and the like aren’t being supported and that the treasures in store are well loved and cared for.

    Butterfly Creek
    Auckland Airport
Butterfly Creek is a great day out for kids of all ages, with plenty of wildlife to see and find out more about. They have a unique collection of animals, insects and critters to meet up close - including the world’s most aggresive predator, the Australian Crocodile - alongside a magnificent tropical butterfly house with over 750 free-flying tropical butterflies.

You’ll find Kelly Tarlton’s at Okahu Bay, where the unique location showcases over 30 live animal exhibits, including the world’s largest Antarctic penguin colony exhibit and amazing underwater viewing tunnels. It’s also conveniently close to Mission Bay, so a run on the beach and an ice cream is the perfect plan as a reward for good behaviour.

    The Fairy Shop
    Auckland Central
If your little tike loves all things pink and sparkly then let their imaginations run wild at The Fairy Shop. This store is magical and not only do they cater for your little fairy but they have a range for all of those pirate loving rough and tumble littlies too. My niece absolutely loves her fairy dress and is adamant that it is the perfect dress to wear for EVERY occassion. This is an amazing store but beware, you may be bought out of house and home unable to feed yourself for the next two weeks… the little one will look super cute though.

Do you have a little one who has endless energy? The botanic gardens will solve all of your babysitting problems. Not only is there huge fields for them to expend all of that pent up energy, but they have an amazing children’s garden that will transport your little one to another world. Before you make the drive out there remember to put a loaf of bread in your day pack. Trust me, you don’t want to have to explain to your little five year old niece that these are special ducks that only eat at dinner time. White lies will never get you far.

Puppy and kittens and rabbits oh my! Once you step through those doors you will be oozing with emotion, your heart will feel so heavy that you may just shed a tear or two. All of those tiny fluffy animals! Forget those cute photos that your workmate emails you, imagine how you feel in that moment and multiply all of those emotions ten fold. A trip to Animates is definitely one of that will tug at the heart strings. Prepare to make room in your car for a puppy or two, a cage, a box full of soft squishy toys and don’t be surprised if you get home and find a lop eared rabbit in their somewhere.

Every little kid should have those magical moments when they discover their first book, dive into those pages and find themselves battling pirates on the seven seas. They can taste the sea salt in the air, feel the scrap of a hook against their skin, hear the clunk of the peg legged man as he walks along the ships deck. The children’s bookshop is where imaginations run wild, shaping the dreams of little ones since yonks ago. Children’s books are thing of wonder and this shop is Ah-ma-zing!

Take them for a day trip to the Glenbrook Vintage Railway and help to fulfill their dreams with a ride in a vintage steam train.
